Shelby Marie Powell

Nettleton— Shelby Marie Powell, 17 months, passed on to be with Jesus on Thursday, September 6, 2018. She was born on April 14, 2017 in Birmingham, AL to Waylon and Jessica Powell.


Shelby was truly a delightful presence to everyone in the surrounding community, and to anyone who looked upon her happy face. She brought so much joy to her family. She was a wonderful, happy baby.

Shelby loved her bouncy seat, her mobile, and her Pooh Bear, but her absolute favorite plaything was her purple teether. She enjoyed watching the movie Toy Story and Elmo from the show Sesame Street. Shelby’s favorite book was Little Bear and the Butterflies. Shelby loved to play with her family. She and her granddaddy were very special pals. Shelby was loved by so many, and will be dearly missed.

Shelby is survived by her parents, Waylon and Jessica Powell, Nettleton; grandparents, Buddy and Sandra Ritter, Nettleton; great grandparents, Herschel and Mae Ritter, Amory; aunts, Teressa KuyKendall, Paris, TX, Brandy Bowden, Paris, TX, Nicole Powell, Texarkana, TX; uncle, Wally Goza (Tammy), Maud, TX; great-uncles and aunts, Gerald Johnson (Linda), Bigbee, Gary Johnson (Debra), Hatley, Glen Johnson (Debbie), Holy Pond, AL, Michael Johnson (Cheryl), Wren, Frank Jones (Sherry), Nettleton, Suzy Ritter, Amory, Kathy Pritchard, FL; and a host of cousins.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Jessie and Marie Johnson; grandmother, Shirley Godwin; great-aunt, Wanda Jones; great-uncle, Kenneth Johnson; and cousins, Timothy Rhea, Reid Jones, and Jonas Jones.

A funeral service will be held at 3PM on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home. Bro. Stanley Blaylock, Bro. Wes Stephens, and Bro. Sammy Raper will lead the services. Burial will follow at Jones Chapel Cemetery in Nettleton. Pallbearers will include Glen Johnson, Gary Johnson, Gerald Johnson, Michael Johnson, Brian Johnson, Mac Neely, and Frank Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be James Capps, Willie Lockett, David Mitchell, John Steele, Johnny Hawkins, Jeremy Martin, and Terry Duke.

Visitation for Shelby will be from 12:30-2:50PM Sunday at the funeral home.
