Amory – Shelby Jean Chism, 78, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on March 24, 1937, in Hamilton, MS, she was a daughter of the late James Conie and Carrie Glow Dupree Brown.
Shelby attended Aberdeen schools. She married Kirb Bud Chism. Before becoming a homemaker, Shelby worked as a seamstress in the area garment industry. She was of the Baptist faith. An avid reader, Shelby liked to read romance novels and murder mysteries. She enjoyed tending to her garden, going to yard sales, and talking with her close friend, Julia, at the beauty shop. Her favorite Country music artists were Conway Twitty and Hank Williams. A wonderful mother and grandmother, her life was surrounded by her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Melinda Gail Brown (William) and Donna Gay Smith of Bigbee; grandchildren, Michael Wayne Brown, William Lynn Brown, Kimberly Jean Holloway, Karie Renea Brown, Connie Leigh Arterberry, Danielle Melton, Tasha Lynn Smith, and Christy Gay Dye; ; great-grandchildren, Christopher Wayne Brown, Bradley Lee Brown, Michael Jeremy Brown, Chasta Lenea Young, Tyler Brown, Hadden Marie Brown, Justin Glen Harlow, Abigail Elaine Holloway, Joshua Brown, Jay Holloway, Russell Jamie Lee Smith, Hunter Lee Smith, Kaitlyn Renee Smith, Senarius Hersey, Skyla Arterberry, J. J. Arterberry, Jordon Melton, Leigh Melton, Shelby Odom, Jhalia Small, and Bentley Melton; sisters, Delorse Bird (Ben), Aberdeen, Mertie May Shaffer, Dallas, TX, and Dorothy Romanger, Hattiesburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kirb Bud Chism; 2 sisters; and 3 brothers.
Her Graveside Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, November 23, 2015, Camp Cemetery with Bro. Robert E. Fowlkes officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris, Brad, Jeremy, Tyler, and Lynn Brown; Justin and J. J. Holloway.
Visitation will be from 11:30 – 1:30 PM, Monday, at the funeral home. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.
