Amory – Sarah Stockton Cother, 87, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at Sanctuary Hospice House, Tupelo. Born on November 3, 1927, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late William Aden “Hezzie” and Mary Bucy Stockton.
Sarah graduated from Amory High School. She furthered her education by attending Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. She married the love of her life, Robert Cother, on March 14, 1951. Together they raised a daughter, Martha. Sarah had two very important jobs in her lifetime, a school teacher and a stay at home mom. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Amory and she loved the Lord. She was a loving and supportive mother and her Christian faith was what guided her in her life. She was passionate about Christ and honoring our Veterans. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, watching TV and movies, listening to the radio, cooking, and talking with friends. One of her closest friends was Miriam Simmons from Pell City, AL, and they would send each other cards and talk on the phone often. Her favorite music was Gospel, Country, and Easy Listening. Her greatest accomplishment in life was being a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and could sew anything.
Survivors include her daughter, Martha Cother, Amory; sisters, Freida Coleman, Silver Point, TN, and Ann Weil, Nevada, Missouri; nieces, Mary Shepherd, Rocky Mount, NC, and Patricia Thompson, TN; special friend, Miriam Simmons, Pell City, AL; several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 29, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Historical Cemetery. Pallbearers will be friends and loved ones.
Visitation will be from 12:30 – 1:50 PM, Saturday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
