Amory – Sarah C. Bratton, 97, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Sanctuary Hospice, Tupelo. Born at home on December 3, 1918, in Monroe County, MS, she was a daughter of the late David Alonzo and Rubie Estell Sumner Conwill.
She attended Cason School, where her mom was a teacher, and also attended Nettleton School. A lady who became a mother for her six siblings when their parents died at a young age, Sarah was very dedicated to caring for her family. In 1968, she married L. R. Bratton. Having a strong work ethic, Sarah worked as a Floor Lady for Amory Garment for several years. Strong in her faith, she was an active member of Cason Baptist Church.
A sweet lady, Sarah was passionate about her family, especially all of her grand, great, and great-great-grandchildren. A member of The Order of the Eastern Star, she received her 50-year pin in 2015. She was a great cook. Sarah enjoyed listening to Christian music and sewing.
She is survived by her grandsons, Ronnie Hood (Carla) and Ricky Hood of Amory; great-grandchildren, Barley Lindsey (Jesse), Lindley Williams (Kelby); Stevie, Jasmine, and Rheanna Hood; great-great-grandchildren, Reed Parker Lindsey, Frankie Kay Lindsey, Kai Harrison Williams; and Emily, Lillie, and Waylon Hood; brother, James Conwill, Amory; son-in-law, Don Wall, Tupelo; several nieces and nephews; a good neighbor, Kathy Mitchell.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen Wall; sisters, Frances Harris and Doris Colvin; brothers, David, Harold, Walt Hayes, and Charles Conwill.
Her Funeral Service will be at 2 PM, Monday, October 24, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Dempsey Rowland officiating. Burial will follow in Carolina Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Deacons of Cason Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 4 – 6 PM, Sunday, October 23 at the funeral home.
