Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Sara Tubb, 86, began her new life in Heaven on October 16, 2022, at Sunrise Nursing Facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was born on August 14, 1936, in Amory, MS to the late Talmadge Brice Tubb and Sara Thomas Gilbert Tubb.

Sara graduated with a Masters Degree in Library Science from Florida State University and she was a loyal Seminole fan. She worked for a short while as a civilian librarian at a US Army Base in Germany. Sarah worked the majority of her career as the Head Acquisitions Librarian at the Mississippi Library Commission. She help build a balanced collection of materials for research and made the materials available for interlibrary loans to smaller libraries across Mississippi. She served faithfully and enjoyed being part of the education of the youth of our great state.

She believed in God and she attended St. John’s United Methodist church in Baton Rouge, LA. Sara enjoyed visiting with others and spending precious time with her best friend, Ms. Elaine Owen. They were able to spend time together the Saturday before Sarah passed away.

Sara was a very humble, kind and intelligent woman who gave back to her community. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.


She is survived by her nieces, Katherine Diane Chesteen O’Connor (Bland), Karen Denise Chesteen Wrenischar (Gerry), Mona Delisa Chesteen Norrell (Frank), Jennifer Lynn Goodwin Donegan (Brian), Andice Gail Goodwin Decourcey (Charles); nephews, Hilliard Chesteen III (Elizabeth), Benjamin Brice Goodwin (Heidi); great-nieces, Colleen Diane O’Connor Wilbert (Jacob), Katherine Marjorie O’Connor (Lowe), Erin Theresa O’Connor, Vail Norrell, Sarah Kate Moran (Matthew); great-nephews, Hilliard Chesteen IV, Hudson Thomas Chesteen, Grant Norrell, Ian Decourcey, Joseph Decourcey, and Sean Donegan; caregiver and close friend, Kris Pettigrew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Mary Katherine Tubb Chesteen Landry, Eleanor Ruth Tubb McQuirter, and Carolyn Gilbert Tubb Goodwin; and a nephew, Gregory Earl Goodwin; brother-in-laws, Earl Eugene Goodwin and H.J. Mc Quirter.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 11:00 am at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS with Rev. Wesley Pepper officiating. Burial will follow in Amory Historical Society Cemetery, Amory, MS. Pallbearers will be Bland O’Connor, Ben Goodwin, Chip Chesteen, and Hudson Chesteen.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until the service hour at the funeral home.
