Quincy – Sara Goodwin Bishop, 67, died on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial RMC, Amory. Born on August 31, 1943, in Quincy, she was a daughter of Opal Robertson Goodwin Helms and the late Huey Goodwin.
Sara was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1961. She worked as a beautician before graduating from IJC in nursing. Before retiring, Sara worked as a traveling LPN. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. A sweet lady who was full of life, Sara never met a stranger. She was a former member of the Red Hat Society. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, was important to her. Sara enjoyed doing crafts, flower arranging, tracing family genealogy, and listening to Country music.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Smith (James) Ware, Charleston, SC; mother, Opal Helms; sister, Julia Goodwin McNeese; and brother-in-law, Clinton McNeese, all of Quincy; grandchildren, Trevor and Taylor Ware, Charleston, SC; niece, Kim (Denis) Renfro, Amory; and nephews, Dewayne (Karen) McNeese, Tim McNeese and Kevin McNeese, all of Quincy. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Bishop; and her daughter’s father, Wayne Smith.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 PM, Saturday, June 11, 2011, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Jack Dauphin and Bro. Ray Ware officiating. Burial will follow in Durrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dewayne, Matt and Drake McNeese; Rick Chaney; Denis Renfro; and Donnie Boyd.
Visitation will continue on Saturday afternoon.
