Sam Welch

Amory—Sam S. Welch Jr., 82, died on January 18, 2020 at Diversicare Nursing Center in Amory. Born in Alabama, Sam was a son of Sam Stanley Sr. and Ola May Stanley Welch.

Sam worked with Thomas Truck Leasing as a mechanic from the early seventies until his retirement in 2001. He always loved tinkering with automobiles and was a dedicated worker throughout his life. He was a good man who could make a room erupt in laughter and he dearly loved his wife, Evelyn. Family was a cornerstone in Sam’s life. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed traveling—whether it was to the mountains, the beach, or Texas, he loved to take a week to relax with his loved ones. Sam will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him and the memories he shared will live on forever.

Sam is survived by his sons, Danny Shuford (Amanda), of Pontotoc, Doug Shuford, Aberdeen; grandchildren, Cody, Lance, Alicia, and Evan Shuford; great-grandchildren, Josie, Jackson, and Lathan Shuford; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Welch; and his brothers and sisters.

A private family gathering will be held in Alabama at a later date.
