Greenwood Springs - Sallie Whitaker, 85, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015, at River Place Nursing Center. Born on July 29, 1929, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Rad Newton and Minnie Lou Polk Brewer.
She was a graduate of Greenwood Springs High School. On August 16, 1946, she married Connie Ray Whitaker. Mrs. Whitaker was a seamstress and also owned and operated a babysitting business, giving love and tender care to all. A Godly mother whose life was guided by her faith, she was a member of Living Waters Assembly of God. A very special mother who had a huge heart, Mrs. Whitaker loved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to Gospel music.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Price (Wayne), Greenwood Springs; son, Connie Ray Whitaker, Jr., (Theresa), Detroit, AL; brother, Bobby Brewer (Linda), Detroit, AL; grandchildren, Angel Blair (Keith), Chad Price (Amy), Jennifer Rawls (Chris), and David Whitaker (Shanna); great-grandchildren, Brandon, Peyton and Mason Blair; Tristin Price; Kyler and Kaden Whitaker; Jaden Priddy; and Kaitlyn and Destiny Rawls; nieces and nephews, Martha Tucker (Jimmy), Judy Hawkins, Ralph Northington (Carol), Tommy Joe Whitaker, Alan Hughes, Becky Hughes, Thomas Northington (Sheila), Renee Walker (Bart), Tony Brewer (Angie), and Janice Ray (Tommy).
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Faye Whitaker; sisters, Gladys Adams and Lilly Mae Northington; brothers, Billy Joe Brewer and Bill Brewer; and a niece, Barbara Guyton.
Her Funeral Service will be at 2 PM, Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Danny Milligan officiating. Burial will be in Sartor Cemetery in Greenwood Springs.
Visitation will be from 11 AM until the service hour on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the funeral home.
