Amory – Ruth N. Wells, 92, died on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial RMC. Born on June 29, 1918, in Enterprise, MS, she was a daughter of the late Robert Peyton Nash and Jewel Boatner Nash Wylie.
Mrs. Wells attended Enterprise schools. On October 12, 1936, she married Roy C. Wells. While in Memphis, she worked for 35 years for Memphis Police Department as one of the original school crossing guards. Having a love for children, she took pride in putting on her uniform, assisting children in crossing the road and being a mentor to them. A volunteer with the American Red Cross, Mrs. Wells served as an instructor. Moving to Amory with her husband in 1981, she was a faithful member of Amory Church of Christ. Mrs. Wells loved her God, reading her Bible, and loved her church and her family. She enjoyed helping others, serving those in need, fishing, traveling, being active in outdoor recreation with her family, and listening to Gospel music.
She is survived by her husband, Roy C. Wells, Sr., Amory; sons, Phillip (Nancy) Wells, Paris, TN, Gene (Francis) Wells, Memphis, and Roy C. Wells, Jr., West Virginia; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous church friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Erma Wells Henderson; and a grandson, Roy C. Wells, III.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Mr. Philip Hathcock and Mr. Derek Moranto officiating. Burial will follow in Young Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dexter Butler, Michael Simpson, Jerry Cooper, Jay Vaughn, Ray Warren and Ed Best. Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Beko.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
