Amory – Ruth M. Carter, 90, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Oak Tree Plantation in Amory. Born on October 11, 1927, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Mattie Pearl Bailey and Andrew Jackson McCullough.
Growing up in Bigbee, Ruth attended Bigbee School and later graduated from Amory High School. A wonderful Christian woman, she was blessed by God with a loving husband, Opal Carter. They enjoyed life together for 68 years and they were blessed with a daughter and a lot of grands and great-grandchildren. Ruth loved her church family from Bigbee Baptist Church. She loved getting into the Lord’s word and could be found reading the Bible daily. She was a faithful person, often putting others before herself. She played the piano and organ at church, taught Sunday School and was a member of WMU. There are many people from Bigbee Baptist Church who were blessed with hand-crocheted baby blankets which were given to them by Ruth at baby showers.
Besides being a busy mother and grandmother, Ruth was an entrepreneur running two businesses, Ruth’s Beauty Shop and Country Store Flowers. She enjoyed keeping her grandchildren and being a great mentor to the younger generations. In her free time, she could be found working in her flower gardens or working in the yard. She was talented in crafts and loved to paint, crochet, and make baby blankets for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-greats.
Ruth left a legacy for her family to cherish forever. Her precious memories will be celebrated for generations to come.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Stegall (Donald), Amory; grandchildren, Leslie Morgan (Hal), Jessica Parker (Keith), Emily Bird (Anthony), Christy Coker, Johnny Stegall (Kelly), Crystal Denison, Shane Stegall, Amanda Moore (Michael), and Trevor Stegall (Melanie); great-grandchildren, Jonathan Morgan (Anna), Taylor Mann, Jared Mann, Karlie Murphy (Cory), and Emma Grace and Georgia Claire Bird; great-great grandchildren, Stella Marie Morgan and Adelyn Leigh Murphy; several nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Annette Perry, Greeneville, SC, and Martha Glisson, Bigbee.
