Rupert Watson, Jr.
Amory, Miss.—Rupert Calvin Watson, Jr., 91, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus. Born June 4, 1922 in Webster Co., he was a son of Rupert Calvin, Sr. and Letha Elvy Morris Watson. He married Lucy Hodges in 1942. A very patriotic man, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, an Army Air Corp veteran of the Korean War, and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War retiring as Chief Master Sergeant in 1974 after nearly 31 years of service. He served as an alderman for the Town of Hatley. Gaining joy from helping others, he was also a member of the Meadowood Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, traveling with church groups, and gardening.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. A graveside committal will follow at 3 p.m. at the Eupora City Cemetery with military honors.
Survivors include one son, Tom Watson (Sharon) of Knoxville, TN; two sisters, Maurine Vail of Tupelo and Doris Weeks of Jackson; 4 grandchildren, Michelle Kelly, Joseph Watson, Deanna Sides, and Sam Watson; and 7 great grandchildren, Aaron Kelly, Andrew Kelly, Celia Watson, Lauren Watson, Kerr Watson, Sydney Sides, and Sawyer Sides.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and by one son, James Watson.
Pallbearers will be Don Vail, Jimmy Vail, Sam Watson, Joey Watson, Tommy Watson, and Frank Owen.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday and will continue until service time at the funeral home.
