Ruby Umfress

Amory – Ruby Powell Umfress, 88, died on July 29 at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on April 22, 1922, in Dixie Springs, AL, she was a daughter of the late Luther D. & Ella Jane Powell. She was a member of New Hope Church of Christ. A retired seamstress, Mrs. Umfress enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and quilting. She loved music and flowers. She is survived by sons, Jimmy V. (Jacque) Umfress, Amory and Jerry R. (Marilyn) Umfress, Aberdeen; brothers, Arnold (Jo Nell) Powell, Raymond, MS, and Bill (Clariece) Powell, Amory; sister-in-law, Olema Powell, Amory; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Hilda Cooper, Amory and Gertrude Lindsey, Smithville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Riley Umfress; an infant son; grandson, Jamie Umfress; brothers, Ezra Clifton, Woodson and Clifford Powell; and sisters, Verna Baker and Velma Daniel. A funeral service for Ruby Umfress will be held at 11 AM, Saturday at the funeral home with Mr. David Highland and Bro. Tim McMillan officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dahlem, Dale Swan, Larry Spann, Monty McCormick, Wayne Roebuck and Larry Ausborn. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Friday at the funeral home.
