Born on July 14, 1913, in Pontotoc County, she was a daughter of the late William Luther and Alma Baker Knight.Mrs. Maxey attended Pearce Chapel and Smithville schools. Strong in her faith, she was a member of Smithville United Methodist Church. Self-employed, Mrs. Maxey operated her beauty shop until retiring. She enjoyed writing the Smithville News, visiting with folks, working crossword puzzles and playing her grandchildren. A sweet, loving and humorous woman, Mrs. Maxey was passionate about watching football and basketball games.She is survived by a two grandchildren that she raised as her own, Jennifer (Steve) Horn and Jerry Maxey, Jr.; her other grandchildren, Tonya, Talisha and Chris; a great-granddaughter; great-grandsons, Taylor, Peyton and Chaz Horn and Nicholas Maxey, and 5 other great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ferman Maxey; infant twin sons; adopted twin sons, Jerry and Terry Maxey; brothers, Oscar, Fletcher and Curtis Knight; and sisters, Earline Nash, Lucille Johnson and Myrtle Duncan.A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Smithville with Bro. Sammy Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Taylor, Peyton and Chaz Horn, Nick Maxey, Billy Pete Leech and Danny Stevenson.Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home in Smithville.Memorials may be given to Smithville United Methodist Church.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at eepicklefuneralhome.com. Arrangements for the Maxey family are in the care of E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Smithville.
