Ruby Jewel Cox

Amory – Ruby Jewel Cox, 88, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Oak Tree Manor. Born on August 10, 1928, in Hamilton, MS, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Tillman and Evie Melissa Rowell Jones.

Ruby Jewel was a member of the band and graduated from Amory High School, Class of 1946. On October 3, 1949, she married the love of her life, Jack Veral Cox. After graduating from Beauty School, Ruby Jewel worked at Amory Beauty Shop and later worked with Vera Lawson. She left to open and operate Jewel’s Beauty Shop. Always wanting to make sure her hair was fixed, she would ask, “Is my hair okay?” even with dementia.

Ruby Jewel’s life was guided by her love for the Lord and her family. A member of Becker Baptist Church, she was looking forward to her heavenly home and the reunion of family and friends. Having a huge heart full of love and compassion, Ruby Jewel was a passionate caregiver of and for her family; she cared for her parents, brother, father-in-law, and sister-in-law. She treasured all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren with Brad holding a special place in her heart. Spending most of her life caring for others, she lived out her faith by scripture, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.” Ruby Jewel was a member of Order of the Eastern Star. A very talented and determined lady, she painted with oil and painted China; she was a wonderful seamstress; crocheted; tatted any kind of stitchery, and was a wonderful cook. She made the best chocolate fudge pies and pound cakes. She will be missed dearly by all that loved and knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Hamilton (Elmer), Amory; grandchildren, Brad Hamilton (Amy) and Lana McGonagill (Joe), of Amory; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Koehn Hamilton; Zack, Jared, Brody and Ana Grace McGonagill; a host of nieces and nephews; special nephew, Billy Cox; special niece, Pearline Petty; special friend who was like a daughter, Debbie Bailey Wright (David).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Jack V. Cox; brother, K. C. Jones; and wonderful friends, Denley and Doris Mobley; Price and Margie Hoots and their daughter, Wanda Wright; and George and Winnie Reed.

Her Graveside Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, September 5, 2016, in Haughton Memorial Park, Amory, with Bro. Mac Phillips officiating.
