Smithville – Rubie Culpepper Gregory, 91, died peacefully at her home Sunday July 10, 2011 after a long full life. A native of Chickasaw County she was born on July 7, 1920 to the late James David and Beulah Aston Culpepper.
Rubie was a loving and caring person always helping others. She was a retired seamstress working at Amory Garment Co, Wilson Mfg, and Red Kap Industries before her retirement. She married Hermon Gregory, who preceded her in death. Rubie was a member of Smithville Baptist Church and enjoyed engaging in biblical discussion. She enjoyed fellowship with the ladies of the church, especially last week when they celebrated her birthday together. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and loved gardening her many flowers, which she could name if asked even recently.
She is survived by her son, W. H.(Virginia) Gregory of Smithville; sister, Elsie Gregory of Pontotoc; grandchildren, Arnold (Meg) Gregory of Sturgis, Paul (Becky) Gregory of Amory, Norman (Jennifer) Gregory, Lynda White, Debbie Lansing all of Smithville; 11 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Don Lansing of Smithville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years; her daughter, JoAnn Lansing; four brothers, Milton, James, Robert and Bill Culpepper; two sisters, Earline Russell and Mary Collins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am, Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Whaley and Bro. Wes White officiating. Burial will follow in Pearce Chapel Cemetery in Smithville. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Will, Evan, Austin and Elijah Gregory, Colby White.
Visitation will continue Tuesday until time for the service to begin.
