Amory, MS – Ronald S. Morgan, 89, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Diversicare Nursing Center, Amory, MS. Born on May 19, 1929, in Amory, he was a son of the late Sidney D. and Verna Parham Morgan.
Ron graduated from Amory High School with the class of 1948. He served in the United States Army in Hawaii and Japan for three years. Returning to civilian life, he graduated from the Itawamba Junior College. An educated driven man, he proceeded onto Mississippi State where he received his Master’s Degree. He later attended the Peabody Institute’s Teacher College where he fine-tuned his teaching skills. For over twenty years, he taught business education classes on high school and college levels in both Georgia and Florida. He also taught at East Mississippi Junior College.
Ron loved the Lord and he was a member of the Church of Christ. A man who kept a meticulous yard, he really enjoyed working outside after retirement. A man with a green thumb, he thrived at growing flowers. He was especially talented at raising lilies and growing vegetables. He would often times help his neighbors with their yardwork. In his free time, he liked to listen to classical music. Ron was a member of the MS State Alumni Association and he loved watching college basketball. Ron was kind intelligent man who will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Ron is survived by his sister, Joyce Morgan Vickery (Lynn), Amory; sister-in-law, Eva Reed Morgan, Ponca City, OK; nieces, Marsha Van Nostrand (Russell), Enid, OK; Kay Landis (Steve), Enid, OK; Amy Pettis (John), Hoover, AL; Lindsay Deason (Jamie), Woodstock, AL; nephews, Don Barnes II (Allyson), Charlottesville, VA; David Barnes (Jennifer), Amory, Randy Vickery (Bernedette), Belleville, IL; cousin, Glenda Pierce.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Morgan.
His graveside service will be held at 3 PM, Thursday, September 13, 2018, at New Hope Cemetery, Hatley, Mississippi with Mr. Philip Hathcock officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:50 pm. Pallbearers will be his family members.
