Roger Dale Ratliff
Amory –Roger Dale Ratliff, 71, was welcomed into Heaven, healed completely, and met the greatest Physician face to face on December 29, 2022. He was born on March 22, 1951, in Nettleton, MS to the late T.R. Ratliff and Leola Montgomery Ratliff.
Dr. Ratliff graduated from Nettleton High School, went on to attend ICC and later graduated from the University of Mississippi. A man who’s goal was to serve and help others, he then obtained his Doctorate from the UMMC Medical School and lastly completed his three year Internal Medicine Residency. For 40 years he helped so many people in Monroe County while he worked at Amory Internal Medicine Group and the Amory Wound Care Center. God gave him great knowledge and insight on how to help his patients and he never took lightly his great responsibility of caring for others. He always went above and beyond and made his patients feel special.
His passion for serving others was Holy Spirit driven and he always made sure others knew that Jesus was the only true way to get healed. Dr. Ratliff was faithful and vital member of First Assembly of God Church for over 42 years. He brought so many prayers, to the altar, for his family and community and he believed in the healing touch of God. He was a passionate Leader of the Royal Rangers children’s group in church as well as an active church Board Member. Dr. Ratliff enjoyed the sweet Christian praise and worship music at church as well as at home. The family of First Assembly will miss his presence; yet they know he is at the feet of the Lord. His genuine smile, kind touch, and peace that radiated from him always made others feel welcomed when they visited the church.
Dr. Ratliff’s best friend in life was his wife, Twyla, and God blessed them with three children and eight grandchildren. Twyla and he married on December 22, 1973 and they always enjoyed doing everything together. Dr. Ratliff loved his family and grandkids, especially the times they could take trips to their cabin in the woods. Other things he liked to do in his free time was woodworking and building things. An avid Andy Griffith fan, Dr. Ratliff never got tired of the simple comedy that came out of the show. He still found great joy and would laugh even if he had seen the episode several times.
He knew his life was so blessed by God with a wonderful career, loving wife, and great family. Dr. Ratliff knew Jesus and his relationship with him was of the utmost importance in his life. He ensured his family knew Jesus and the solid rock He is during times of trouble in life. One of his famous carvings on his wood products was “J.E.J.E.”, Jesus is Essential. Jesus is Enough.
Dr. Ratliff is in the presence of the Most High, singing praise and engulfed in the love of God. His family will miss him dearly but they know one day there will be a sweet reunion. There are no words to describe all he meant to them, but God knows their grateful hearts and they have a true peace.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the E.M.S. Staff, the doctors and nurses at Gilmore and North Mississippi Medical Center, all of whom took such great care of him while he was sick.
He is survived by his loving wife, Twyla Dickerson Ratliff, Amory; daughters, Erin Heatherly (Ron), Sharpsburg, GA, Emily Benedict (Luke), Oxford, and Ellen Ratliff (Nathan), Smithville, MS; grandchildren, Emma and Maddie Heatherly; Anna, Finley, and August Benedict; Kyla, Isaac and Gabriel Ratliff; sisters, Mauvolene Lovett, and Yvonne Burroughs; brother, Bill Ratliff; nieces and nephews, Sharon Rooks, Susan Jolly, Joy Barnett, Beth Lovett, Ricky and Mark Burroughs; Charol Ratliff.
