Amory – Roberta “Mac” Grissom, 92, died on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at River Place Nursing Center. Born on April 17, 1920, in Calhoun County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Mable Long McCurley.
Mrs. Grissom was a graduate of Pittsboro High School and Draughn’s Business School. On September 2, 1942, she married Norbin Grissom. For 35 years, Mrs. Grissom was a co-owner and operator of City Tire and Appliance Store. After retiring, she worked for People’s Drug Store until her health failed. A devout Christian, Mrs. Grissom was a dedicated and faithful member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Adult I Sunday School class and the Disciple Bible class. Selfless, kind, and a nurturer, Mrs. Grissom enjoyed working with the public and helping others at every opportunity. Loved by all and full-of-life, she enjoyed cooking for her family at Christmas; gardening; working in the yard; fishing; cross-stitching; listening to music, especially Gospel; watching golf and football, especially the Dallas Cowboys; and family gatherings.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Macey, Amory and Pat Hamner, Olive Branch; sons, Butch Grissom (Sue), Amory and Steve Grissom (Margaret), Nettleton; sister, Nina White, Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Teresa Monroe (Bob), Cynthia Gilmore (Tom), Robin Huddelson (Cary), Christy Cox, Robert Grissom, Jon Grissom, Wendy Cox (Barry), April Adams (Tommy), Kerri Lange (Bill), Debbie Ledet (Kevin), and Jeni Stephens; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great- great-grandchildren; and niece and nephew, Susan W. Hughes and Charles White.
In addition to her parents and her husband of 55 years, she was preceded in death by a son, Mike Grissom; grandson, Spencer Stephens; and brother, Thomas McCurley.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM, Friday, December 14 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearer will be Harold Grissom.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
