Hatley – Robert Earl Plunkett, 71, died on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on April 4, 1940, in Athens, he was a son of the late William Dewey and Rosie Ellen McDonald Plunkett.
Mr. Plunkett attended Becker Schools. Having worked at True Temper Sports, Amory Garment, and Metro Design, he retired from Walker Manufacturing after fourteen years of service. Mr. Plunkett was a member of The Peoples Tabernacle in Sulligent. He was a former member of the Lions Club. Spending time with his wife and family, especially the family cookouts, were very important to him. Mr. Plunkett enjoyed cooking, watching television, going for car rides, fishing, camping, and listening to Country and Gospel music. Having a witty personality who never met a stranger, he loved to talk with people.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Janette Williams Plunkett, Hatley; sisters, Lavada Sanders, River Oaks, TX, and Mary Ellen Northington, Amory; brother, Bud Plunkett (Peggy), Amory; nieces and nephews, Brenda Gail Brazil, Mary Gene Cash, Dennis Sanders, Jerry Sanders, Bruce Sanders, Kathy Poteet, Donald Wayne Plunkett, and Tammy Plunkett; and special friends, Sammy Jo Williams and Ricky Story. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Thomas Plunkett and nephews, Thomas Eugene and William Earl Plunkett.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, July 19 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Phillip Blaylock and Bro. Jamie Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Beeks Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Plunkett, Sam Williams, William Keller, John Walden, Cody Kennedy, and Mike Kennedy. Honorary pallbearer will be Donald Wayne Plunkett.
Visitation will continue until the service hour on Tuesday.
