Robert Noel Smith

Aberdeen – Robert Noel Smith, 87, met his Heavenly father and was reunited with his wife on March 26, 2023. He was born on February 27, 1936, in Wren, MS to the late Felix and Edrie Hill Smith.

Robert grew up in Monroe County and was a graduate of Wren High School. He furthered his education at IJC in Fulton, MS and later he obtained a Bachelor’s of Science at MSU. His career took many turns during his lifetime yet, he did all things with great integrity and loyalty. He worked as a teacher and coach in Collierville, TN as well as at Whitehaven School in Tennessee. Robert was then recruited to work in the Garment Industry first at Glenn Manufacturing in Amory, then at Salant & Salant Manufacturing in Union City, TN. After retiring, he took over his family’s farm in Wren and later went back to work in the Garment Industry working for Glenn Slacks and lastly he finished his career working in the Dominican Republic.

The great provider that he was, Robert was definitely the Patriarch of the family. He married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Arnold Smith on December 21, 1958. God blessed them with two sons and four grandchildren. Robert loved the Lord and was a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church in Wren. He was a Godly man who lived out his faith everyday and always put others before himself. While in Mississippi, he was actively involved with Amory Panthers Athletic Programs as well as serving on the Tranquil Methodist Church Cemetery committee.

In his free time, he liked to play and watch sports both in person and on tv. Robert was the biggest fan of his children and grandchildren and they always knew he was on the stands rooting for them. He liked to travel, spend time with his family, his siblings and their families, as well as his close friend, Linda Covington in Union City, TN. He liked classic old country music. Robert was a fine man and there will never be another like him.

There are so many great memories that his family and friends can hold tight to through these hard times. They know that he is in the presence of the Lord, so they have peace. A great grandfather, father, brother and friend, Robert will be missed so much.

He is survived by his sons, Terry Noel Smith (Kay), Cooper City, FL, Glenn Smith (Amber), Amory, MS; grandchildren, Logan Smith, Gavin Noel Smith, Cayden Smith, and Colbie Grace Smith; sisters, Donna Kay Griffith (Bill), Amory, and Barbara Ann Crawley, Hot Springs, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Jimmy Arnold (Sarah); nieces and nephews, Ellie La Porte(Jotham), John Craig Griffith (Emily), Shawn Arnold (Rebecca), Debra Permenter (Dean), Cathy Furr (Larry), Dennis Smith (Janet), Tina Mills (Russ), Tamara Arent (John); and several great nieces and nephews.
