Amory – Robert “Bobby” Howell, 85, died on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on November 15, 1928, in Amory, he was a son of the late Ward and Maggie Sue Hill Howell.
Mr. Howell was a graduate of Becker High School. He honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War. Working in Escondido, CA, from 1956 – 1968, Mr. Howell was a teamster and a heavy equipment operator building the highway system in San Diego. After returning to Amory, he worked as a farmer. He was a member of North Boulevard Christian Church. Having a strong love for his family, Mr. Howell was a one-of-a-kind character who will be missed. He enjoyed being around family and friends, working on old cars, playing a good game of Rook, tinkering on lawn mowers, Classic Country music, and was an avid NASCAR fan.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Bette R. Cantrell, Verona; daughters, Staci Bridges, Tupelo and Shelli Grant, Amory; son, Kirk Howell (Rebecca), Amory; sisters, Jean Tubb and Eleanor Roberts of Amory; grandchildren, Katie L. Howell, Keeli Fowler, Ryan Bridges, Amanda Holloway, and Jamie White; great-grandchildren, Kallin “Tripp” Sudduth; Jillian, Addison, and Evan White; and Knox and Eli Holloway; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a sister, Peggy Howell.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, March 4 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Ferman Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Bridges, Dan Hester, Danny Majors, Neil Roberts, Monty Roberts, and Kenneth Roberts.
Visitation will be from 5 PM to 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
