Amory – Robert Adams, 86, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015, at Merit Health Gilmore Memorial. Born on July 2, 1929, in Quincy, he was a son of the late Andrew Washington and Mary Ruth Easter Adams.
Robert honorably served in the US Army. After returning home, he graduated from Shannon High School. Meeting the love of his life in 1957, Robert married Ruth Powell on June 29, 1958. After working with C & D Lumber Company, he worked with Babcock and Wilcox for 30 years, retiring in July 1993. Robert was a member of Amory Church of Christ. He was a Mason of Splunge Lodge #602. Robert’s life was guided by his faith and his family. Having a love for the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football games, and reading. Robert was passionate about working in his gardening and sharing his produce with family and friends. A fan of Bluegrass music, he looked forward to going to Vinegar Bend to listen to bands and watching them on television.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ruth Adams, Amory; daughter, Anissa Thompson (Tony), Amory; daughter-in-law, Tina Adams, Nettleton; brother, Rubel Adams (Lurlene), Amory; brothers-in-law, James Powell (Shirley), Navarre, FL, John Powell, Virginia Beach, VA, and Bo Powell (Linda), Amory; grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Nikki Jung, USAR, (David), Cheyenne, WY, Stephanie Adams, Nettleton, and Cody Thompson, Amory; a host of nieces and nephews; two great-nieces, Elizabeth and Catherine Adams; and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister and a son, Steve Allen Adams.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, August 10, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Mr. Kenneth Randolph and Mr. Philip Hathcock officiating. Burial will be in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Joe Reeves, Kevin Powell, Wayne Howell, Dexter Butler, and Cody Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Cole, Ralph Reeves, Phillip Thompson, and Tommy Smith.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday, at the funeral home.
