Richard Wood
Amory, Miss.—William Richard Wood, 85, died on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Golden Living Nursing Center in Amory. Born June 8, 1928, he was a son of the late Audley Mark and Hettie Roxalana McCullough Wood. He married Irene Frederick in 1950. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and before his retirement, he worked in the textile industry for 35 years. He attended Meadowood Baptist Church. A Mason, he was a member of the J.A. Mayfield Masonic Lodge in Amory and a member of the York Rite. A loving husband and father, he enjoyed spending time with his family; carpentry; wood work; fishing; and attending gospel singings.
A Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery with Masonic Rites. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Irene Wood of Amory; one daughter, Carolyn W. Williams (Jerry) of Amory; two sons, Williams F. Wood (Carol) of Raleigh, NC and Stephen Wood (Carolyn) of Laurinburg, NC; two sisters, Marie Beachum of Tupelo and Evelyn Randle of Nacogdoches, TX; 5 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Frank Owen, Melvin Parker, Roger Parker, Jim Beachum, and Bob Beachum. Honorary pallbearers will be Masons and his Sunday school class.
Visitation will continue until 12:15 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday and the body will lie in state from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
