Amory—Richard H. “Dicky” Lyle, 78, passed away at his residence on Monday, February 20, 2017. Born on June 14, 1938, he was a son of the late James Gorman and Gladys Faust Lyle.
Dicky attended the Amory Public Schools. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1959 and was stationed at McGuire Air Force Base. He married the love of his life, Jewel Dean Cantrell Lyle on December 21, 1956. They were married for 60 wonderful years. When returning from active service, he was employed with Scribner Equipment company from 1960 – 1994 and worked with Sanderson Construction company until his retirement.
He was a member of the Amory Church of Christ where he served as an usher and greeter. His favorite verse was Mark 16:16: “He who believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he who disbelieves shall be condemned”. His parents set an example for Dicky to follow: to love your family with all of your heart. He dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The children at St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital held a special place in his heart.
Dicky enjoyed collecting Case knives and was an avid fan of Roy Rogers. He loved to listen to country and gospel music, especially Sonny James. He will be missed dearly by all that knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Billy, Milton and David; 4 sisters, Mildred Taylor, Myra Kennedy, Muriel Tartt, and Martha Lyle.
His survivors include his loving wife, Jewel; sons, Richard (Ricky) G. Lyle (Tammy), Aberdeen, William (Bill) O. Lyle (Lisa), Amory; sisters, Jean Tartt, Joanne Hawkins, Mary Nix; grandchildren; Matt (Deanna), Zach, Aleah, Breanna and Deanna Lyle; great-grandchildren; Micah and Abby Lyle; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Gerald and Ruby Worthey; T.L. and Opal Herring.
A celebration of life service for Richard “Dicky” Lyle will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel, Amory with Brother Gregg Worthey officiating. Pallbearers will be Richard Williams, Marty Lyle, Zach Lyle, Tim Tartt, David Nicholson, Roger Tidwell, Randle Nix and Matt Lyle. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Gerald Parker and staff; employees of Legacy Hospice. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park.
