Richard Alexander, 70, died in Trussville, Ala. on September 8, 2012 at the St. Vincent's Hospital East.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Alexander of Odendville, AL; two stepdaughters, Anne Giada (Jospeh) of Odenville, AL and Rita Long (James) of Lantana, TX; one step-son, Bobby Jordan (Faye) of Amory; one sister, Joyce Mitchell (Don) of Seattle, WA; 7 step grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; 2 nieces and nephews.
To all that knew him, Richard was a man of his word. He was eager to help anyone at anytime, and especially when it came to family. Whether it be fixing a flat tire or re-wiring an entire house, you could rest assure that Richard would get it done for you. It may take him a while, but he would complete the project!
He was a proud veteran of The United States Navy and patriotism ran deep in his veins. He loved being a part of our family and would have done anything for any one of us. Most importantly, was the unsurpassed love and devotion that Richard had for our Mother. Their love and dedication to one another was special and undeniable. A day never passed that he didn't tell her that he loved her. They were inseparable. I can almost hear his words echoing "Mary, I'm true blue", and yes, true blue to her he was always. This is without a doubt.
After a massive heart attack and stroke almost 9 years ago, Richard's mental & physical capacity was greatly diminished. Although the doctor's only gave him a life expectancy of two years, Richard miraculously defied the odds and hung in there much longer. I would like to believe that this was all a part of God's plan...for Richard to remain until our Mother was ready to let him go. As we are sad for our loss, we know that Richard would not have wanted to continue any longer in the state in which he was in. We know that you are free now Richard, and saving a seat in heaven for all of us. Until we reunite, may you rest in peace.
