Remona Cook Cole

Smithville - Remona Cook Cole, 82, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Oak Tree Plantation. Born on August 26, 1935, she was a daughter of the late George Thomas and Floye Gertude Westbook Cook. She graduated from Hatley High School in 1952. While in high school, she was a member of the FFA and FHA. While a member of the 4-H, Remona met her husband, Wilbur Cole while participating in a local fair, roping cattle. Wilbur knew immediately this was the woman he was going to marry. They married on January 31, 1951. She also won 2nd Place in the State Fair for her canning.
Remona loved people. She held various jobs before being a full-time homemaker. She was an assistant nurse and the Health Department, a seamstress for Wilson Manufacturing and Glenn Manufacturing, a teacher assistant and even owned her own fabric store while was located in her home.
She loved her family with all of her heart. She loved to sew and cook not only for her family but for anyone that asked her to. Wilbur and Remona were always sharing their home and love with anyone who needed a place to stay overnight.
Being the wonderful cook that she was, her buttermints were her speciality. She loved cooking so much that she helped with the kitchen staff wherever she was. In her spare time, she loved to listen to gospel and country music. Lee Greenwood was her favorite artist to listen to.
Remona was a faithful member of Meadowood Baptist Church. She was very involved with the youth of the church, especially when they went to church camp. Being the cook that she was, she graciously agreed to oversee the kitchen at Meadowood wherever a meal needed preparing.
Remona will be remembered for her loving heart. She loved people especially her husband and her children. She leaves a wonderful legacy to her family, that being to love all of your family and cherish everyone that you meet.
In addition to her husband, Remona is survived by her special chosen children: Angie Cole Meaders (Dwight), Amory and Johnny Cole (Carla), Ripley, MS; her sister, Rebecca G. Cook Kelton (Cliff), Amory; Grandchildren: John Michael, Quinn, Chastity, and Cayson Cole, Alissa Shell, Kyra Kirk, Colby and Dustin Cockrell; Great-Grandchildren: Haven Sloan, Graceland Vaughan, Camden Cole, Kingslee Pargo, Cambree and Jett Cole, Hasten Stasch and Easton Bray; many, many “adopted” grandchildren.
