Amory – Rebecca Ann “Becky” Jones Prater, 67, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at North MS Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on October 7, 1946, in Hazard, KY, she was a daughter of Bernadine Combs Maloney and the late Bud Jones.
Becky attended schools in Hazard, KY. Moving to Amory four years ago to be closer to her sister, she was a very active member of Twin Oaks Church of God, Okolona. With family a very important part of her life, she looked forward to family gatherings. Having a big heart, she was passionate about sitting with and caring for friends when they were sick. A homemaker, Becky was a fun, one-of-a-kind, loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, and taking road trips to see her grandchildren.
She is survived by her mother, Bernadine C. Maloney, Russell Springs, KY; daughters, Dora Holt (Duane), Oklahoma City, OK, Paula Reedy (Brian) Carpentersville, IL, and Roberta “Bobbie” Chandler, Springfield, MO; son, Ricky Maness (Reni), Rogersville, TN; sisters, Roberta Thornsberry (Larry), Amory, Elizabeth Pike (Eddie), Ely, KY, Mary Tuttle (Jim), Clinch Valley, TN, and Teddie Staley (Danny), Sloans Valley, KY; brother, Ira Montaigne (Christy), Sloans Valley, KY; 13 grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Granny;” 9 great-grandchildren; special nephew, Tim Jones, Amory, and several other nieces and nephews; and special friend, Betty.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Prater; son-in-law, Brian Rooney; niece, Elaine Thornsberry; and nephew, Larry Thornsberry.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Oklahoma City, OK.
