Smithville – Reba Turner, 95, started her new life in Heaven on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. Born on September 30, 1925, in Monroe County, MS, she was a daughter to the late Carlos Edgar and Ovie Holloway Sullivan.
Reba started school at Pearce Chapel and later attended Smithville Schools. She married J.C. “Red” Turner in 1945 and they were blessed with a daughter and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She helped support her family, was a hard worker and she made a career working at Amory Garment and Monroe Trousers. Reba was a supervisor for 33 years on the Trimming Line in clothing manufacturing. A selfless woman, she was compassionate and often put others first.
A faithful member of Pearce Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, she loved the Lord. She loved to fellowship with her church family and she especially enjoyed listening to Gospel music especially the Gaithers. Some of her favorite songs were “At The Cross” and “Go Rest High”. Easy going, Reba liked sewing, quilting and oil painting in her free time. She had a green thumb and she could show up her grandchildren when it came to farming or plowing.
Throughout her life, Reba was a hard working Christian woman who poured into helping raise her whole family. They are very grateful for all she did for them and the memories she gave them will live on forever.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Jernigan, Smithville; grandchildren, Gerald Jernigan (Jeana), Smithville, Brian Jernigan (Jeannie), Hamilton, Tommy Jernigan (Amanda), Smithville; great- grandchildren, Jessica and Justin; Ty, Kaylee (Mason), and Rylee; Chance and Tanner; Great-great-grandchildren, Lexi, Lillee; sister, Lara Jean; brother, James “Buddy” Sullivan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. “Red” Turner; great-great grandchild, Konner; sisters, Vernie Sullivan, Opalean Murphy, Eloise Lindsey, Mildred Coverhouse, and Hazel Noe.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Pearce Chapel Cemetery, Smithville, Mississippi with Pastor John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow and the pallbearers will be her family. Honorary pallbearers will be Chance and Tanner.
