Reather Thames

Nettleton – Reather Gwenyth Smith Thames, 90 began her new life in Heaven on Sunday, November 6, 2022. She was born in Amory, MS, on March 2, 1932, to the late Kenny Lafayette Smith and Fannie Ruth Middleton Smith.

Reather grew up in Monroe County, attended school at Amory and later in life she obtained her GED from ICC in Tupelo, MS. She married the love of her life, George Thames, and together they were blessed with a wonderful family. A great mother and hard worker, Reather and her husband owned and operated 3 dry cleaners until she changed career directions. She then worked at True Temper Sports where she really enjoyed her job and she was once was awarded Employee of the Month. Reather worked there until she retired.

She was an outgoing woman, who was funny with a big heart. Reather loved the Lord and always let God guide her in tough times. She was a member of Bigbee Baptist Church. Reather enjoyed going to Gospel Festivals, reading the Bible, and watching different Preachers on television. Giving, she donated a truck load of food, clothes, school supplies and house hold goods to Hurricane victims in the country.

In her free time, she liked to be with her sisters, daughter, and going to Country Music concerts. Reather really liked Randy Travis, Elvis, Josh Turner as well as Steve Azar. She had a fun spirit and her favorite saying was “Are you ready to rock and roll?” Traveling to the coast of MS was a favorite past time as well as watching westerns. Reather searched for treasures at yard sales, going to the Choctaw Indian Fair as well as Nashville Music Festivals.

Reather loved on everyone and her presence will be missed. They all know that she is at peace.

She is survived by her daughter: Betty Rea Monaghan (Tucker), Wren; son, Randle Lynn Tice, Wren; grandchildren, Johnnie Rea, Jr., Brandie Rea Spears (Roger), William Dale Monaghan (Kristen), Randle Shane Time (Donna); 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jewel Kyle, Amory, Mavis Jones, Wren, Francis Wright (Rea), Becker, Geneva Pierson, Columbus, Sarah Richey, Tupelo; brother, Harlon D. Smith (Clytee), Hatley; a host of Nieces & Nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Thames; sisters, Eunice Coggin, Helen Stafford; brothers, Ariol “Sonny” Smith, Robert Earl Smith, and one stillborn brother.

A Celebration of Life Service Graveside will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at Amory Historical Society Cemetery, Amory, MS with Bro. Bill Monaghan officiating. Pallbearers will be William Dale Monaghan, Johnny Rea, Jr., Shane Tice, Roger Spears, Brandon Childers and Tyler Vaughan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Randle Lyn Tice and Tyler Shields.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 12pm until 2pm at the funeral home in Amory.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Veterans Association and St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN.
