Carolina Community – Raymond L. Barnett, Sr., 80, died on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at North MS Medical Center. Born on November 28, 1933, in Tuscaloosa, AL, he was a son of the late Marlin Ellis and Lena Mae Dodd Barnett.
Living in Missouri, Florida, and Illinois, Mr. Barnett moved to the Carolina Community in 1990. He was a farmer and also worked on the East family farm in Toccopola. He was of the Baptist faith. A loving dad, his life always focused on his family. Outgoing and funny, Mr. Barnett enjoyed yard sales, trading, fishing, the Atlanta Braves, and listening to George Jones and Earnest Tubbs.
He is survived by his fiancée, Amanda Moore, Carolina Community; children, Stevie Barnett, Matthews, MO, Melvin Barnett (Maggie), Matthews, MO, Carol Ann Miller (Richard), Gulfport, Melinda Lambret (Doug), Sikeston, MO, Donna Brown (Lyle), Fulton, and Ray Barnett (Jill), Carolina Community; grandchildren, Sean Renfro, Starr List, Lyle Brown, Jr., Chance Barnett, Raymond Barnett, III, Hannah Carmack, Alexander Replogle, Stephanie Revels, James Barnett, Matthew Barnett, Andy Barnett, Samantha Barnett, Crystal Barnett, and Brandon Taylor; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Long (Bobby) and Maxine Mason (Jeff Long), Aberdeen; brother, Marlin Junior Barnett (Lavon), Aberdeen; nieces and nephews, Mark and Jesse; Donnie Joe; Doug and Ivan; Kenneth, Ricky, Ray, and Will; and Terry; JoAnn, Donna, PeeWee, Tammy, Tonya, Lois, and Joan; and a host of other nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ruth Byrd; brothers, Neal, Joe, Charlie, and Carl Barnett; and his dog, Lucky.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, June 9 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Robert E. Fowlkes officiating. Burial will follow in Howell Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.
