Detroit, AL – Rabon D. Hathcock, 75, died on Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Gilmore Memorial RMC. Born on October 23, 1938, in Splunge, he was a son of the late Braxton G. and Mattie Silas Hathcock.
Rabon attended Smithville and Oak Hill schools. After 42 years of driving a truck, he retired from Janes Trucking, Guin, AL. Rabon also worked as an auto body man, a logger, and a saw miller. A member of Liberty Baptist Church, he was a former of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Detroit Church of Christ, and Detroit Baptist Church. A 32nd Mason, he was a member of Splunge Masonic Lodge #602. Giving and having a heart of gold, Rabon loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed working his mules, sitting on the porch watching birds going into the houses he made, fishing, gardening, and Country and Gospel music.
Survivors include his daughters, Sharon Harris (Rickey), Calhoun, GA, Sheila Lynk (Rodney), Mantachie, and Suzette Bishop (Jeff), Caledonia; son, Michael Hathcock (Holly), Stevenson, AL; sisters, Iva Nell West, Greenwood Springs; brothers, Clinton Hathcock (Dorothy) and Wilbern Hathcock (Pat) of Greenwood Springs; grandchildren, Brandi Olson (Blake), Dalton, GA, Rickey Harris, II (Mana), Rome, GA, Amanda Holley (Daniel), Nettleton, Christy Wigginton, Guntown, Leslie Hollingsworth (SPC Jonathan, USANG), Caledonia, Joshua Bishop (Jamie), Caledonia, Elizabeth Bishop, Caledonia, and Zack, Zane, and Michaela Hathcock, Stevenson, AL; great-grandchildren, Cheyene Holley, Brynleigh Harris, and Tripp Harris, III; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bret Ballard, Steve Woodham, Fred Barr, and Garland and Jean Lucas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Hilbert Hathcock; niece, Angie Smith; nephew, Dustin Egger; and grandson, Justin Wigginton.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, December 19 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. B. J. Mills and Bro. Reagan Rye officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joshua Bishop, Shane Murray, Matt Jones, Jonathan Jones, Jason Hathcock, Tony Hathcock, Darwin Hathcock, Dustin Hathcock, and Brian Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Garland Lucas, Steve Woodham, Fred Barr, Reggie Jones, and Bret Ballard.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
