Amory, Miss.—Purley Mae Thompson Smith, 88, died on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at her home. Born December 17, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Vick and Rosie Rye Thompson. Mrs. Thompson attended Quincy School and married Horace Smith in 1945; he died in 2001. Before her retirement, she worked as a seamstress in the area garment plants. Her hobbies included reading, flower gardening, crocheting, and knitting. She enjoyed spending time with her family and church family. She was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Chuck Moffett and Bro. Ricky Harlow officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheilah Randall of Amory; one son, Jerry Smith of Amory; 5 grandchildren, Elaine Harris, Tommy Harlow, Ricky Harlow, Vicky Champagne, and Dee Smith; 7 great grandchildren, Alisha, Carissa, Chelsea, Misty Jade, Scott, Haley, and Brittni; 9 great-great grandchildren, Bray, Colton, Cayden, Alexia, Clayton, Emma Grace, Peyton Lane, Madison, and Preston; 2 step great-great grandchildren, Caroline and Katlyn; and one brother, Boyd Thompson of Kosciusko.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 brothers, R.B. and Carmen Thompson; and one sister, Inez Golden.
Pallbearers will be David Harris, Chris McCary, Joey Stewart, Richard Allred, John Wokosin, Bobby Sloan, and Tony Champagne.
Visitation will continue until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
