Smithville – Prentiss Hugh Wigginton,72, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at NMMC, Tupelo after an extended illness. Born on April 25, 1942, in Golden, MS, he was the oldest son of Uzeal “Bill” Wigginton and Myrtle Rogers Wigginton.
He graduated from Amory High School, Class of 1959. Prentiss married Glenda Sue Stevens in 1961. For many years, he worked at Hyster, now Nacco, in Sulligent, AL, as a quality engineer. Prentiss also spent many years in law enforcement, working for the Smithville Police Department and with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, where he was currently employed. A loving and caring husband, father, and friend to all, “Mr. Prentiss” was known and loved by many for his compassion and willingness to always help others.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Wigginton; son Brad Wigginton (Bobbie), Florence, AL; daughter, Kerry Jackson (Billy), Aberdeen; four granddaughters, Katie Childers, Samantha Wigginton, Lauren Wigginton, and Sydney Jackson; sister, Kathy McCool (Jimmy), Smithville; four brothers, Roger Wigginton (Carolyn), Amory, Danny Wigginton (Linda), Fulton, Jimmy Wigginton (Phyllis), Smithville, and Randall Wigginton (Beverly), Smithville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, May 9 at Meadowood Baptist Church with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Burial will follow in Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Hunt, Jimmy Pipkins, Van Burroughs, Jimmy McCool, Tommy Lovern, and David Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
Visitation will be from 5 -8 PM, Thursday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home. Mr. Wigginton will lie-in-state at the church from 1 PM until the service hour on Friday.
