Polly Crump Cavender

Polly Crump Cavender of Amory, Mississippi passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at Baptist Memorial – Golden Triangle Hospital in Columbus at the age of 84.

Polly was born on September 30, 1931 in Quincy to Willie Van Buren and Irma Posey Crump. She graduated from Becker High School in 1949 and attended Draughon’s Business College in Birmingham, Alabama. It was in Birmingham that she met the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” Cavender. They married in 1954. Polly worked as a secretary for US Steel until her retirement. She and Tony moved from Birmingham to Amory in 2001. They enjoyed their retirement days together with gardening, fishing, antique hunting, and traveling until Tony passed away December 29, 2015. She was a member of Becker Baptist Church.

Polly was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; her sisters, Hazel England and Diane Wilson; and her brother, J. D. Crump.

She is survived by her sister, Geneva Moon (Howard) of Becker; her brothers, Howard Posey Crump (Carol) of Saltillo, Bill Crump (Joann) of Cantonment, Florida, and Dewey Crump (Patti) of Trinity, Alabama; her sister-in-law, Virginia Benton of Amory; numerous nieces and nephews; and three special friends, Anne Hayden, Mallie, and Frances Bromberg of Birmingham, Alabama.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 4th from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Becker Baptist Church with the funeral beginning at 12:00. Burial will be in Corinth National Cemetery at 1 PM, Wednesday, April 6, 2016. Officiants for the funeral will be Rev. Randy Spencer and Rev. Charlie Ballew. Pallbearers will be Steven Reeves, Chuck Cooper, Danny England, Bobby Hudson, Chris England, and Mark Bowden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Becker Baptist Church, 52200 Highway 25 South, Amory, MS, 38821.
