New Castle, DE - Phyllis D. Baines passed away on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, surrounded by her children at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. She is now in Heaven, with her Lord, Jesus Christ and friends and family who have gone on before her. She was 75.
Mrs. Baines was born Feb. 19, 1936, in Gordo, Ala., the daughter of the late Robert Woodrow Davis Sr. and Flona Ray Ballard Davis.
She was a homemaker who was very active in the First Free Will Baptist Church in Amory and the New Castle Free Will Baptist Church in New Castle, DE, where she played the piano and organ and led the choir for many years. She also taught piano lessons for over 30 years. She enjoyed reading and studying her Bible and attending her small group Bible studies.
Phyllis loved to read and play any kind of card game. Other enjoyments included playing the piano and music in general. She was proud to have taught some of her grandchildren piano lessons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack F. Baines Sr., in 1993.
She is survived by a daughter, Debbi Atwood of Huntsville, AL; two sons, Rev. Bob Baines and his wife, Ginger, of Cumming, GA, and Rev. Jay Baines and his wife, Annette, of Smyrna, DE; a sister, Ellen Homan of Gordo, AL; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Memorial services for Phyllis in Delaware were held Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at 2 PM at the New Castle Free Will Baptist Church, 409 Moores Lane, New Castle, DE.
A Graveside inurnment service will be held at 3 PM, Friday, November 11 in Haughton Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:50PM for the graveside service.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7 PM, Friday, November 11 at First Free Will Baptist Church, 60035 County Barn Road, Amory.
Visitation will be from 4:30 PM until the service hour at the church on Friday.
