Aberdeen – Phillip Shields, 54, passed away on October 31, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis. Born on September 5, 1963, in Aberdeen, he was a son of Joyce Faye Threadgill Shields and the late A. J. Shields.
Phillip had an excellent work ethic. At age 13, he worked with his dad at their family business, Shields BP, where he washed cars and pumped gas. Prior to being able to work on cars in the garage he was given the challenge from his dad to take apart an engine and putting it back together. He accomplished this task a young age and was proud to start working on car engines. Phillip was a graduate of Hatley High School, Class of 1982. On May 12, 1984, he married the love-of-his-life, Jennifer Brown and they were blessed with two children. Phillip treasured the 18 years he worked with his dad. In 1996, he joined Kerr-McGee and worked as a bagging specialist and he later retired from Tronox in December 2015.
Strong in his faith, Phillip loved the Lord and was a member of Riverbend Baptist Church. He served as an usher and was very involved in his church. When he was sick, he dearly missed going to church and worshipping with his family and friends. Loving, caring, giving and hardworking, Phillip treasured his family. Having a big heart, he had a passion for helping others and always put everyone first. In his free time, Phillip enjoyed being outdoors deer hunting, fishing, and playing with his dogs. He also enjoyed working on cars, woodworking, carpentry work, and always treating his family with ice cream. Words alone cannot describe the wonderful man that Phillip was and his family will cherish his memories forever. His love and light lives on in their hearts.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jennifer Shields, Aberdeen; mother, Joyce Faye Shields, Gattman; daughter, Stacey Robinson (Mike), Jackson; son, Luther Shields, Aberdeen; sisters, Teresa Martin, Lisa Harris and Christie Williams (Patrick), of Aberdeen; brother, David Shields, Aberdeen; a grandchild on the way; several nieces and nephews.
