Smithville – Robert Phillip “Phil” Summerford, 48, with his family by his side, passed away peacefully from this life to a much better one to be with his Lord and his Dad on January 2, 2011, after a lengthy illness from liver failure.
Phil was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1980. He honorably served his country in the US Navy. Phil had been a framer for a local furniture company. Attending Wildwood Baptist Church, he had professed his faith in the Lord in his early teens. A very caring and loving person with a big heart, Phil enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs, Cocoa and Sun Dog. He was a NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan and liked to fish.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Summerford, Smithville; sister, Mitzy (Mike) Walden, Amory; and special niece, Allyson Hill, Tupelo. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert F. Summerford.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Smithville with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ronnie, Tony and Marlon Summerford, Tommy Cagle, David Hill and Mike Walden.
Visitation will continue until the service hour on Tuesday.
Memorials may be given to Amory Humane Society, 1317 Old Hwy. 6, Amory, MS 38821.
