Smithville – Cecil Phillip “Phil” Collums, 75, died on Sunday, October 9, 2011, at his residence. Born on August 11, 1936, in Pontotoc, he was a son of the late C. C. & Nona Mae Phillips Collums
Mr. Collums was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1957. He joined the US Navy and honorably served until 1962. Following service, Mr. Collums graduated from ICC and went to work as a tool and die maker with Tupelo Tool and Die. Retiring after 32 years of service, he continued to work part-time with his employer. On December 21, 1968, he married Brenda Wells. Guided by his faith in the Lord, he was a member of Smithville Baptist Church. A loving and caring man who was always there for his family, he adored his grandchildren. Mr. Collums enjoyed fishing, gardening, working in his shop, quail hunting, and taking trips to the mountains in Tennessee.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Wells Collums, Smithville; son, Chris Collums (Heather), Amory; sister, Sammie Elliott (Hubert), Amory; brothers, Charles Collums (Angela), Marion, AL, Terry Collums (Sue), and Jimmy Collums (Patricia), Smithville; grandchildren, Peyton and Emma Kate Collums; sisters-in-law, Lavelle Collums, Amory, and Barbara Collums, Smithville; aunts, Reva Henderson, Fulton, and Ruby Collums, Pontotoc; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Curtis and Peggy Ausborn, Smithville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Nester; and brothers, Duane and Lynn Collums.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Wes White and Mr. Mickey Beam officiating. Burial will follow in Young Memorial Garden. Pallbearers will be his nephews: Toby, Chad, Randy, Chuck, Phillip, and Mike Collums.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
