Amory - Mr. Harold Hoyt Mixon, 86, passed away on July 18, 2018 at his residence in Amory. Born in Alabama on December 5, 1931 he was a son to the late Alvin Hobson Mixon and Lula Catherine “Katie” Mansell Mixon.
Harold served 8 years in the U.S. Navy as a Teletype Operator (Crypto). He loved to read mystery novels and the Bible. His family had wonderful discussions concerning passages in the Bible. He shared stories of his childhood and even loved to travel to his stomping grounds from where the stories originated. Working on old cars was a favorite pastime as well as going to car shows. He listened to bluegrass and gospel music when he could. One of the family’s favorite memories will be riding his lawnmower that he called, “Steel Horse”.
Harold Mixon is survived by his daughters, Dora Bounds, Jedburg, SC, Diana Adams (Mike) and Leann Mixon of Hanahan, SC; sons, Harold “Micky” and Thomas Mixon of Hanahan, SC; Grandchildren, Buck Bounds, Summerville, SC, Katie Mixon, Hanahan, SC and Summer Mixon, Missoula, Montana; 5 great-grandchildren; brother Doyle Gene Mixon (Gay), Shannon, MS; sister-in-law Delores Mixon; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Redus Buford, Colon Stanley and Douglas H Mixon; a sister, Johnnie Fostine and granddaughter, Tara Lynn Adams.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors for Mr. Mixon will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Mt. Hebron, Beaverton, Alabama with Bro. Stanley Blaylock officiating. His family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation for Mr. Mixon will be Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from noon until 1:30P.M. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory.
