Hatley- Pete Miller, 83, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at his residence. Born February 10, 1930 in Monroe County, he was the son of the late Mary Miller and E.C. “Jim” Miller. A 1949 graduate of Hatley High School, he attended business college in Memphis. After completing business college, Pete worked in construction in Texas and Oklahoma, where he was blessed to have met his wife of 56 years, Deleeta Roach Miller, who passed in 2007. They were blessed with three children, Patti Miller, Hatley, Michael Ray “Mickey” Miller (Shelia), Hatley and Gary Kenneth Miller (Tammy), Clinton, MS.

A strong man of faith and trust in God, He was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church. Very active in the Lord’s work, Pete had served as a deacon, Sunday School Director, Music Director, Sunday School Teacher, and church treasurer. He retired with over 39 years of service from Monroe County Power Association. He was a past president of Monroe County School Board and current president of Monroe County Electric Power Association Board. A family man, he was often found supporting his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in their activities. He loved MSU and Hatley School Sports, traveling, golfing, and gardening.

In 2009 Pete married Betty Conwill Parham, and he was blessed with even more family, a daughter, Jennifer Taylor (Tommy), Hatley; 3 sons, Keith Parham (Dottie), Hatley, Anthony Parham (Freida), Hatley, and Scott Parham (Angel), Amory.

In addition to his wife, Betty Miller, Hatley, and children, he is survived by sisters, Lillian Parham and Betty Katherine McCleod (Sydney), both of Hatley, and Mabel Ford (Punk), of Amory; grandchildren, Brooke Woods (Chris), Joey Miller, Jessica Miller, Maleah Miller, Christian Miller, Lexi Miller, Kayla Taylor, Codi Taylor, Jake Self, Madison Seals, Whitleigh Seals, Chase Parham, Amber Parker, Holly Pierce, and Cheyenne Warren; great grandchildren, John Michael Woods, Jaxon Miller, Jayce Woods, Heyden Parker, and Caylee Parker; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his his wife, Deleeta, and parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Kenneth Preston Miller.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Meadowood Baptist Church with Dr. Lloyd Sweat, Bro. David Highland, and Bro. Sydney McCleod officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joey and Christian Miller, Chris and John Michael Woods, Jake Self, Cody Taylor, Anthony, Keith and Scott Parham, Tommy Taylor, and David O’Connor. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Meadowood Sr. Adult Mens Sunday School Class and members of the Monroe County Power Association Board.

Visitation will be Monday evening, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, from 5 -8 PM. Mr. Miller will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 1 PM until service time at 2 PM.
