James Coy ”Pete” Brown, 90, died June 8, 2016 at his residence. Born on August 22, 1925 in Detroit, Alabama, he was the son of Marion Coker Brown and Ruby Nix Brown. Pete was the loving husband of Mary Sue Brown.
He was a graduate of Smithville High School and attended Texas A&M. While at Smithville, he was voted as Mr. Smithville High School, class president and most intellectual. He served in the US Navy during WW II and the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was aboard the USS Mount Olympus in Tokyo Bay, Japan when the peace treaty was signed. Pete was a member of the Bigbee Baptist Church for 24 years. He was a prayer warrior for everyone. He went to work with Gilmore Puckett and then went to work as the district manager at the Furniture Center. He was a very civic minded person, being a member of the Civitan Club and a Mason, 32nd degree. Pete was a very tender hearted man who loved life and always had a smile.
Pete loved to fish and camp. When not outdoors, he loved to listen to Gospel music. He loved his family and was happiest when his children came to visit.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Brown; daughters, Montie Reynolds (Phil), Sevierville, TN; Marla Walsh (Ron), Eagle, Idaho; sons, Mark Brown (Debora), Smithville, Keith Shaddix, Amory, Everett (Pete) Brown, Treasure Island, Florida; Grandchildren, Lindsey Kelley, Lance Reynolds, Bonnie Kelley, Sara Kelley, Summer Brown, Jennifer Brown, Andrew Brown; Great-Grandchild, Kaydence Brown.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Sunday June 12, 2016, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, Mississippi with Bro. Justin Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Stanford, Doug Cuthbert, Boyd Duncan, Doug Fowlkes, Rob Sargent, Randy Leech. Honorary pallbearer will be Lawrence (Rabbit) Kennedy.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 11, 2015 at the funeral home from 5-8 PM and will continue until service time on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101.
