Amory – Paul Rainey Conwill, 86, died on Friday, March 23, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on November 11, 1925, in the Carolina Community, he was a son of the late Ira Eugene and Jessie Lee Black Conwill.
A lifelong resident of the Carolina Community, he attended schools in Carolina and Fulton. Mr. Conwill honorably served with D Company, 275th Infantry, 70th Division in the European Theater for 16 months, 1944 – 1946, as a Corporal. His group was known as The Trail Blazers and his favorite means of transportation was his jeep, The Mississippi. For 21 years, he worked at Rockwell International and retired from Tecumseh in 1992, after ten years of service. He was a member of Cason Baptist Church. A loving father who loved life, Mr. Conwill enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, gardening, farming and Gospel music.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, March 26 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Buddy Rushing and Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in Wiygul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony, Chris, Thomas, and Johnny Conwill; Johnny Carrol Brown, Phillip Lindsey, and Mike West. Honorary pallbearers will be C. B. Bickerstaff, Dr. Bill Rogers, the staff at Golden Living Center, and the staff at Gilmore Memorial RMC.
He is survived by his sons, Paul Eugene “Gene” Conwill (Gail) and James Lee “Jimmy” Conwill (Sylvia) of Carolina Community; grandchildren, Angela Conwill Wright (Steve), Jessica Conwill and fiancé, Brian Coker, James Anthony “Tony” Conwill and his fiancée, Amanda Christopher, Christopher Lee “Chris” Conwill (Amy), Teresa Stricklen (Mark), and Angela Hardin (Danny); great-grandchildren, Zoey Lynn Conwill; Madalyn Lane “Maddy” Christopher; Cody and Kennedy Dye; and Victoria and Rebekkah Stokes; daughter-in-law, Doty Conwill Stokes; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Frances Deason Conwill and Katherine Ashcraft Conwill; son, Joseph Lonnie “Shorty” Conwill; sister, Ozema Conwill Cody (Sam); and brothers, Lenord and Earnest Conwill.
