Paul Broom

Starkville – Paul Thomas Broom, 59, died on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at OCH Regional Medical Center, Starkville. Born on May 21, 1951, in Farmington, NM, he was a son of the late Ernest L. & Lora Sue Bean Broom.
Paul was a graduate of Jal (NM) High School, Class of 1970, where he was very popular and served as the manager for the football and basketball teams. While in New Mexico, he worked as a custodian for the Carlsbad Public School System, worked in a commercial greenhouse, and was a welder. Paul served as the groundskeeper for SENCA in Okolona. A compassionate and tenderhearted person, he was of the Primitive Baptist faith, was an active prayer warrior, and enjoyed watching Memphis pastors on television. Loving, loyal and having a great sense of humor, Paul enjoyed reaching out to his family and friends. Having a brilliant mind, he was an avid reader; was up-to-date on current events; was a devoted football fan with Mississippi State Bulldogs, the New Orleans Saints and the Mississippi Mud Cats being his favorite teams; enjoyed listening to the radio and the police scanner; and enjoyed yard work, especially mowing. An animal lover, Paul was passionate about the Amory Humane Society. He was a member of the Professional Football Research Association.
He is survived by his sister, Rev. Linda Broom Stetter, Marlboro, MA; cousins, Becky Minniece, Okolona and Pennie England Williams, Ripley, TN; and extended family, Jan and Jeana Cole, Canyon, TX.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, April 26 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Elder Tim Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Rolling Hills, Starkville.
