Patsy Allen Wright

Patsy Charlotte Allen Wright, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Becker, MS on May 29, 2019. She was the first born child of Mary Frances Randle and Rufus Ben (Jack) Allen of Wren, MS.

As the oldest of five siblings, she learned the art of “mothering” at an early age, a skill that she continued to used until her last days. She cared for many people through the years, including her children, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, employees, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many more.

Patsy and Eugene (Gene) Wright were married on June 23, 1955 in Aberdeen, MS and began a wonderful adventure filled life together. Gene became a certified watchmaker and jewelry repairman and the couple moved to Arkansas with their young daughter, Charlotte. Soon they were joined by a daughter, Teresa, and a son, Barry. They didn’t live in Arkansas for very long, but they made dear lifelong friends and have many fond memories of their time there. They completed their family with the birth of their daughter, Alisha, in 1973.

In 1968, Gene and Patsy opened Wright and Buxton’s Jewelers on Main Street in Amory, MS. In a few years, the Buxtons sold to the Wrights and the name was changed to Wright’s Jewelers. The store quickly became an Amory favorite for its beautiful merchandise, excellent customer service, and fun loving staff. The store had an atmosphere of a family reunion, welcoming all that entered with open arms and wide smiles. The Amory store continued to operate until 2005 with branches opening in Tupelo, Fulton, and Columbus. Patsy was known across north Mississippi for her spunky attitude and her infectious laughter. Visiting her one of her stores was truly a treat.

Patsy Wright was truly one of a kind. A fun loving gem of lady who loved to play dress up, skinny dip in her swimming pool on a hot summer day, and stay up late at night laughing until she cried with her brothers and sisters. She instilled in her children and grandchildren a deep love for the Lord, all things Disney, and the need to find the fun in every situation.

She also loved her time working with the Pilot Club of Columbus, MS. She especially loved serving as Pilot Club President in 2001-2002. Many fond memories were made and dear friendships forged through those years.

She is survived by her children, Charlotte Wuichet, Amory, Teresa Ware (Shelby), Tupelo, Barry Wright, Amory, and Alisha Galey (Louie), Brandon; grandchildren, Mason Herring, Sally Stallings (Zach), Christopher Herring (Brooke), Mary Hubbard (Zack), Corynne Pless (Weldon), Trey Ware, Betsy Ware, Katie Powell (Trey), Karry Wills (Josh), Sonny Galey, and Calvin Galey; brothers in law, Al Woodhouse, Morgan Kroll; sisters in law, Martha Allen, Claudia Allen; many great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and treasured friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Wright; siblings, Peggy Woodhouse, Glenda Kroll, Jack Allen, Johnny Ray Allen; sisters in law, Alba Murff (Newman), Dorothy Peeples (Winston), Arlene Lockhart (Odell); brothers in law, Thomas “Brack” Wright (Catherine), J.C. Wright (Ina Rhea).
