Amory – Patricia “Pat” Jernigan, 62, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on July 27, 1954, in Chicago, IL, she was a daughter of Violet Draper Suggs and the late John Douglas Suggs.
Pat attended Greenwood Springs and Hatley Schools and later earned her GED. A determined and strong woman, she worked as a supervisor and on the production lines in the furniture industry. No job was too tough for her, she also went to work driving a bulldozer with Weyerhaeuser and Kinder Morgan. A child of God, she grew up in the Baptist church and loved the Lord. She was blessed during her lifetime with two wonderful children. Very loving and spunky, Pat loved her whole family, especially her granddaughters and great-grandsons. Having a close bond with her mom, sister and brother, she always enjoyed being with them. Having a big heart of compassion, Pat was passionate about animals. Her dachshunds, particularly Sugar, had a special place in her heart. She also liked helping the Amory Humane Society and helping homeless people.
A very sweet lady, she was affectionately known as “Crazy Granny.” The outdoors was the favorite place for her to spend time. She loved hunting, fishing, yard work, and working in her flowers. Before weed eaters existed, Pat was so meticulous that if her mower didn’t reach a spot, she would cut the grass with scissors. In her free time, she also collected rocks and made bird houses.
She is survived by her mother, Violet Suggs, Cherokee, AL; daughter, Amy Estis (Paul), Smithville; son, Craig Monaghan, Amory; grandchildren, Cara Scott (Brian), Hanna Brook Monaghan and JimiAnn Taylor; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Reid Scott; sister, Jan Caraway (Denny), Amory; brother, Allen Suggs (Mary), New Leipzig, ND; several nieces and nephews; numerous special friends.
