Greenwood Springs – Patricia “Pat” O’Rahilly Roberts, 75, died on Monday, June 27, 2011, at her daughter’s residence. Born on June 14, 1936, in Chicago, IL, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Ann Mullen O’Rahilly.
Mrs. Roberts attended St. Edmonds Grammar School in Oak Park, IL, and Trinity High School in River Forest, IL. On August 31, 1957, she married J. G. Roberts. Working mostly at the Glenn Manufacturing plant in Detroit, AL, Mrs. Roberts began as a seamstress and retired as a floor lady supervisor. Growing up Catholic, she was an active member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where she worked closely with maintaining the church cemetery. A fun-loving lady, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her friends. Mrs. Roberts enjoyed listening to Irish, Country and Western and Gospel music; playing cards; and bowling.
Survivors include a daughter, Norma Roberts Cantrell (Jimmy), Hatley; son, Greg Roberts (Mary Ann), Tupelo; sister, Marge Thallemer (John), Elmhurst, IL; God-daughter, Kathy Peters, Carol Stream, IL; grandchildren, Jamie Roberts, Southaven, Casey Cantrell, Amory, and Jennifer Reich, Tupelo; great-grandchildren, Kylie Harbin, Cameron and Kenleigh Grace Hadaway, and Hunter “Honey” Reich; sisters-in-law, Barbara O’Rahilly, Carol Stream, IL, Beth O’Rahilly, San Diego, CA, Elvis Faulkner, Columbus, and Vivian Spruill, Sulligent, AL; brothers-in-law, Tom Dawson, Oak Park, IL, and Winfred Roberts (Nell), Hatley; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Dawson; brothers, Pete and Danny O’Rahilly; and sisters-in-law, Estelle Carroll and Clorie Cumberland.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, June 30 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Rountree officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Herman Mays, Ray Cooper, James Estes, Paul Keys, Jamie Roberts, and J. B. Markham.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Roberts will lie in state at the church from 3 PM until the service hour on Thursday.
