Amory - Patricia Ann Armstrong, 85, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away from this stage of her life and on to the next in the early hours on Sunday, October 9, 2016, surrounded by a host of family and friends at Diversicare, Amory. Born on September 22, 1931, in Detroit, AL, she was a daughter of the late John Coy and Alma Hawkins Ballard.
Patricia, affectionately known as “Pat” to some, “Trish” to few, and “Granny” or “Mama” to her most prized possessions, was the rock of her family. She was a graduate of Byrd High School, Class of 1949, in Detroit, AL. On July 9, 1953, she married Billy James “Bill” Armstrong. Working briefly at Amory Garment, Pat lovingly became a stay-at-home mom when her husband went to work for Frisco Railroad.
A great mom and an incredible cook, Pat was known for her excellent penmanship. She loved to play dominoes. While the family is sad at her passing, they rejoice with her in her home-going!
Survivors include her son, William “Jimmy” Armstrong (Sherri), Detroit, AL; grandchildren, Chasta Ortstadt (Chris), Daphne, AL, and Seth Armstrong, Florence, AL; great-grandson, Noah Ortstadt; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bill Armstrong; daughter, Virginia “Ginner” Fleming; granddaughter, Calli Ann Armstrong; sister, June Clark; brothers, Thomas and Lynwood Ballard.
Her Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 12:15 PM, Saturday, October 15, 2016, in Masonic Cemetery with Rev. David Gifford officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 AM – 12 PM, Saturday at the funeral home. We will leave in procession from the funeral home to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Amory Humane Society, PO Box 218, Amory, MS 38821.
