Pamela S. “Layla” or “ Pammie” Young

Mooreville – Pamela “Layla” or “Pammie” Young, 50, passed away on March 24, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Born in Springfield, IL on May 23, 1968, she was the daughter of Rita Mae Shanks.

Layla went to school in Taylorsville, Illinios. At age 15 she moved to Mississippi with her family. She worked for many years serving the public where she was a bartender and she served at Brenda’s Lounge. Layla also worked at Joe’s Pillow Factory and she winterized buildings for various real estate companies. She was a fighter and she battled Breast Cancer and kept a great attitude throughout all the trials she endured with her illness. She proudly said she would “fight like a girl” and she was passionate about Breast Cancer Awareness.

A woman who knew where she stood, she had a wild and strong spirit which held her family together. She was described as the tree and her family as the leaves. A best friend to anyone she met, she was funny, and she loved to laugh and hang out with her family, adopted family and friends. She spoiled her kids and grandkids and really enjoyed wrestling and playing with them. A physically fit woman, she volunteered with Union Fire Dept. as well as the Plantersville Fire Dept. She once won a Toughman Competition. The music she enjoyed included Christian, Country, Rock, Easy listening, Soul, Piper, Storytelling, and especially CCR and Lauren Daigle. A lover of animals, she had three close companions, Piper, Titus, and Zeus and she took great interest in wolves. In her free time, she loved being outdoors, riding her Harley, going to yard sales, cooking out with friends, and camping at both Sardis Lake and Grenada Lake. She will be dearly missed and she leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories for her family to cherish forever.

Layla is survived by her daughter, Crystal Pettit (Dason), Mooreville; Ashley Bryson, Mantachie; sons, Dillion Young (Hailey), Tremont, Dustin Strickland (Daniel Strickland), Plantersville; grandchildren, Clifton Gray, Landon Blade, Dason Ryder, Braydon Young, Annabella Young; sisters, Angela Dees (Tom), Taylorville, IL, Sherri Durbin (Jeff), Taylorville, IL; brothers, Mark Young, IL, Scott Young, IL; several nieces and nephews; special friends and adopted family, Bobbie “Granny” Vann, the Bryson Family, the Franks Family, Plantersville FBC, Plantersville Fire Dept., and her wrestling family.
