Oscar Jewel Oswalt
Amory – Oscar Jewel Oswalt, 81, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center – Gilmore in Amory, MS. He was born on May 23, 1942, in Duncan, Mississippi to the late Oscar Carr Oswalt and Daisy Gray Oswalt.
Oscar grew up in Bolivar County, Mississippi and graduated from Rosedale High School with the class of 1962. He was a hard-working man, a diesel mechanic for Massey Ferguson and Rizzo Farms. His last job was at Kosman’s Car Dealership. Oscar was talented with his hands and was always a great provider for his family that God blessed him with. He was a kind man, who was Pentecostal and he believed in God and loved his family fiercely.
He married the love of his life, Shirley Braxton Oswalt on September 9, 1967 and they were blessed with a large family and grandchildren he adored. They spent many years together and she is thankful for the wonderful husband he was to her. In his free time, he like to listen to gospel and country music. He also enjoyed searching for treasures at yard sales. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family as they made memories.
Oscar will be missed dearly and his family knows that they will meet up with him again some day.
Left behind to treasure the memories of him are his wife, Shirley Braxton Oswalt, Amory; daughters, Vicki McCaffrey, Smithville, and Tracy Oswalt, Amory; sons, Oscar Jeffery Oswalt (Tonia), Walnut, MS and Jonathan Jewel Oswalt, Amory; son-in-law, Ricky Sneed, Nettleton; grandchildren, Robert McCaffrey, Jessie Walters, Blake Oswalt, and Chase McCaffrey; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mamie Oswalt and Helen Little, both of Houston, TX; host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by parents, Oscar Carr and Daisy Gray Oswalt; daughter, Tammy Sneed; 3 sisters, Eva Mildred Gordon, Rosemary Berry, and Lettie Lee Oswalt.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 2:00 pm, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS with Bro. Dennis Smithey officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park in Amory, MS with pallbearers being Robert Mc Caffery, Bryan Torre, Tony Mercer, Greg Burns, Drew Walters, and John Hunsucker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Bright and Opie Dixon.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday evening, October 25, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home in Amory, MS.
