Smithville – Opal Pearce, 83, died on Sunday, June 5, 2011, at North MS Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on November 3, 1927, in the Splunge Community, she was a daughter of the late Robert Alex and Hattie Simmons Chambers.
Mrs. Pearce attended Bethlehem Schools and married Thomas Pearce on February 26, 1954. Before becoming a homemaker, she worked as a seamstress with Glenn and Wilson Manufacturing. She was of the Baptist faith. A very loving lady, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends. Mrs. Pearce enjoyed sewing, traveling, flowers, quilting, and listening to Country music.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas Pearce, Smithville; daughter, Patti (Daniel) Umfress, Fulton; sisters, Sue Justice, Amory, Mildred Roberts and Audrey (Winslow) Cox, both of Hatley; brothers, Robert (Mabel) Chambers, Jr., Hatley and Russell Chambers, Amory; grandson, Joey (Nikki) Umfress, Smithville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Harvey Justice, and a great-niece, Michelle Gray.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, June 7 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Van Dale Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joey Umfress, Andy Lindsey, Brian Gardner, Barrett Pearce, Vincent and David Justice, Mike Cox and Richard Chambers.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
